Polvoron Recipe and New Kitchen Gadgets

Before I  give you the recipe to one of my favorite childhood snack, let me  show you the new  kitchen items that I received from Ozeri.  First is the double wall thermo glass .  I love these glasses, because they are    heat and shatter resistant so you can also use this for  hot coffee or tea.  The double wall design is created  to keep your hands cool with hot drinks and free of condensation with chilled beverages.  Now, most  regular glass  is not  microwave safe but this is an exception.  You can try it for yourself, I did and I was amazed.
The milk frother is fun to have especially if you have kids like my son who loves milk and milkshake.  I had a set of this with pitcher  before and  my daughter uses it a lot to make her brother something special for his milk treat.  This is a petite gadget and  yet powerful.  It whips up foam in as little as 10 secs. If you love  cappuccinos, lattes, espressos, hot chocolates, shakes and frappes, this is ideal for it.  The set includes an egg beater to whisk eggs, soups, dressings, sauces and other non-solid food items, and a propeller-shaped attachment for mixing cocktails.
The last but not the least is the wok.  I have had their wok before and loved using it everyday when I cook but just like anything else, it gets worn out especially if you use it lot like I do in my kitchen.  I am glad that I have a new one.
What I love about this wok is that it delivers unprecedented non-stick performance without releasing harmful fumes or toxins at high temperatures.  It is scratch resistant and I love that it is super easy to clean.  The depth of the wok is  a great advantage to me because I hate splatters all over the counter.
When I get new kitchen gadgets, it really inspires me to cook  my family's favorite dishes.
I always make sisig, a favorite Filipino dish.  Since my son can't handle spicy food, I always make sure to get him a separate dish before I add the  peppers.  Sisig is great to eat with rice.  You can check the link for the recipe.
Before I give you the  recipe for polvoron, here's a little info about this  yummy treat.  Polvoron  is  shortbread-type of  cookies made with a soft, crumbly mixture of toasted flour, powdered milk, sugar butter, and nuts or any other seeds that you like.  In the Philippines, they normally use peanuts because it is the  cheapest nuts you can buy but you can use just about any kind like almonds.
You will need the following:

  • 2 1/2 cups flour
  • 1 1/2 cups skimmed milk or powdered milk
  • 1 cup  sugar
  • 1 cup butter, melted
  • 1 tbsp chia seeds
  • 1 tbsp  flax seeds
  • 1/2 cup  chopped and  toasted  almond.
Procedure
  1. In a big bowl, add the flour, skimmed milk,  and sugar.  Mix it well.  Mixing the  three ingredients will eliminate the issue of the  milk  forming into lumps when in the pan.
  2. In a  heated wok, toast the  chia and flax seeds.
  3. Add the flour mixture and start mixing it until it is toasted.
  4. Add the toasted  almonds.
  5. Pour in the butter and mix it well.
  6. Turn off the heat and transfer it to a bowl and let it cool.

You can put it in a mold and wrap it for future consumption. I just put it in the jar because I don't have a wrapper. I love snacking on it with my coffee or tea.  To purchase any of these items, visit the links  below:

Korean Chicken BBQ Cooked in a Barbecue Wing Rack

It's amazing  how a marriage can change you.  I mentioned in my previous posts that I have never liked cooking when I was single.  It is my least favorite among all the home chores but when I got married, that All changed.  It seemed like a switched was turned on and I was a completely different person because now I love cooking.  I mean, who wouldn't, with all these   cool gadgets available for me to use just like this BBQ Wing Rack  from Cavetools.
What I love about it is that it comes with a dip pan where you can  put veggies.  The juice that  runs out from the chicken   gets absorbed  by the veggies which  makes it even  tastier.  I finally got to use it last week and the kids  were excited to see  chicken being cooked  in a different way.
I marinated the  chicken legs with the Galbi Korean BBQ sauce that I have for 30 minutes.  For the veggies, my children prepared carrots, potatoes, and mushroom.  I added  shallots, parsley, and sprinkled it with  salt and pepper.
It's so much fin to hang those chicken legs in the rack.
It's cold outside so i Baked it in the oven instead for forty minutes and the  chicken turned out really good,  The meat is so tender and the  skin just completely became crisp.
This BBQ wing rack would make a great gift for  Christmas.  If you  want to  buy it for your love ones, just go to  Amazon and use this coupon code Wing15 for 15% off  the original price or you can go directly to the  office Cavetools website and buy it from there through the link  I  provided above.

Multi-Purpose Stainless Steel Grill Rack

For the past two months, I have been neglecting to cook regularly because of our  schedule of doing renovation the new home that we bought  and packing our stuff.  Moving is exciting but at the same time  it comes with stress as well.  Having said that, we  are guilty of going to the fast food lately and getting our food there  instead of  cooking at home.  I don't like it because not only it is not budget-friendly, it is also not very healthy.  Now that we have moved, I am starting to   go back to cooking our meals again.

I am also excited to use my new  kitchen tools and gadget  just like this  multi-purpose stainless steel grill Rib Roast Rack that I got from Cavetools. It's a unique 2-in-1 design that gets the job done without needing multiple tools .  This is great for cooking ribs, roasts, chickens, turkeys, hams and more!  I can finally  try to make a turkey here at the new home for the Thanksgiving.
If you want your  ribs to cook to perfection, this is the tool for you.  You can professionally cook  the ribs  the way you want it.  With the spacer bars, it a allow the convection heat to evenly cook  5 perfect ribs.  I love that it is dishwasher safe which makes the cleanup a breeze.  It has a thick stainless steel construction that ensure a  long lasting durability
And look how it holds even the other foods!  This is what we had  for the 4th of July.  I was planning on roasting a whole chicken but I did not have time to buy the ingredients I need since I am still busy unpacking, so I just grab whatever I have in the fridge.  I grilled some porkchops,  boiled some corn on a cob and  sliced some water melons for dessert.  It's not  red,  white, and blue but it definitely was yummy!

Game Changing Kitchen Gadgets from Joseph Joseph

When we were still in South Korea, I bought this two-tiered  dish rack.  I love it as it is stainless steel and I can fit  a lot of dishes in it after washing it.  I still love it but  we are going to move  next month and the kitchen that we have in that  new home is a little  smaller than what we have now so I don't think this will have space there.  I am bummed that we are leaving our current home because I  really love this  big kitchen of mine but  this home is getting smaller for our growing family so I have no choice  but to give up  something in order to get something else.  Oh well, that's life, right?
I am very pleased with this Arena self-draining dish rack  because it doesn't  take  so much space and you can  fit a lot of dishes in it too.  It doesn't accommodate  as much a space as my current dish rack but I am okay with that since my kitchen to the new home is  small.  I also love the fact that it is self draining so I don't have to deal with  water residue because of it's  innovative design.   Gotta love game changing kitchen gadget such as this one.
We are moving soon so I decided not to use this  here, I will  wait till we  moved to  the new home.    Other features that I love about this item  includes the flexible ribs that hold crockery securely in place.  It helps to prevent chips and scratches while the dishes are  drying. It can also hold extra-large utensils as well as plates, bowls, cups, glasses and cutlery as shown in the photo below.  Another thing is the compact feature.  The  stylish design means your sink area will look great as well as keeping things tidy and organized.  I don't like  wiping  dishes  after washing them  so a dish rack like this is ideal for me, I love dishes being air dried.
Another product that I got from Joseph Joseph is this Index color coded chopping board set.  I am all for  space saving gadgets for the reason I have mentioned previously so chopping board set is a great addition.  One thing about home cooks need to watch out is  cross contamination of food.  That's why I have two bamboo cutting board so I can use one for the  veggies and the other for the  meat.  With this chopping board, not only that  it is color coded, it  also  is a space saver.  It has  its own  storage case that won't take much space in the kitchen.
Index™ has been a worldwide best-seller since it's launching in 2008.  I have to admit, I thought Joseph Joseph is a new company because I have never heard  of them till this year but I am so glad that through social media, I have seen the video of their  awesome products.  With this  original colour-coded chopping board set, you don't have to worry about  cross-contamination of food.  All you need to do is to use the simple-yet-effective tab system.
Index™ includes 4 cutting boards featuring index-style tabs to indicate which food type they should be used for –
raw meat, vegetables, fish and cooked food.
All boards have non-slip feet and sloped edges to catch any stray food and juices. They also have knife-friendly cutting surfaces and the case has a non-slip base.
This stylish and practical set looks great in any kitchen and comes in regular or large sizes.
Joseph Joseph definitely win my vote for functionality and sleek design when it comes to kitchen products. Please watch the video below and see how awesome their products are.  In fact, I want most of their  products in my kitchen lol.

Awesome Little Kitchen Tools from KitchenIQ

First of all, I would like to thank Ms. Fields for sending me these awesome little tools for my kitchen.  I received five multi-purpose  tools to review and I couldn't be happier as all of them  are great addition for my cooking to be easier and more fun.  I got  Zester,  Cheese Grater, knife sharpener,  3-in-1 mini prep,  and ginger grater.
We have a sharpener that came with the knife set that we bought but to be able to use it effectively., you have to be in the right angle to achieve the right sharpness that you want and oftentimes, I failed to achieve that.  I always wait for my husband to  do it for me.  But now that I have this  Deluxe Edge Grip Knife Sharpener from KitchenIQ I can always o it anytime I want without a problem.  It is so easy to use
There's two  stages of sharpening.  Thiere is a coarse for dull knives  and fine for finishing and light touch ups.  You can use the fine slot for serrated knives which I really like.
I absolutely love this sharpener.  When  my husband came home, it was the first thing that he  noticed.  He said that her Mom used to have  a sharpener like this and she  always used it to sharpened their kitchen knives.
I hate when my knife is so dull because cutting veggies is frustrating but  with a sharp knife, it is a lot easier and faster.
I love it when I have new tools in the kitchen because it inspires me to cook.  I prepared one of my family's favorite dish when I received these products, sauteed mung beans.
I have mentioned in my previous  posts that we started  making our  lemon water  since there is an abundance source of  lime nowadays.  The Better Zester  will be put to use  from now on  min making our lemon water.  What I love about this zester is that, it comes with a storage container with squegee.  I have never seen one like this before in the store so I am pretty impressed.  And oh, the  blades are really sharp.  Aside from the container, it also comes with a cover on top of the blade so when you are not suing it, it is safe to store and won't cut your hand  if you accidentally grab it.
I used it for the first time when I cooked  the other day and man oh man, the blade really is sharp.  It really does the job really well.
Even my daughter got excited because the next time she makes this Lime-Vanilla cupcake, she would be able to use it.
Another  essential ingredient in our kitchen that I always use is ginger so I am  super happy to have this Grate Ginger Tool.  Now, this is not a regular  grater that you  buy in store because this can peel, slice, grate and  juice fresh ginger and other aromatics like garlic, all of these  tasks in one tool.  Pretty Cool huh?
As I've mentioned above, ginger is one  product that we  usually use here at home especially during the winter.  I always make ginger tea  because it helps us not to get  cold or flu.  I always have ginger in the refrigerator or in the freezer because I use it every time I make  a dish with fish.  It makes the dish tastes better and it also eliminates the  fishy taste .
The blade is super sharp and I love that it has cover  for the blade so when you are not suing it, you can safely  put the lid back and nobody gets cut.  As you can see in the photo, one side is for grating and one side is for slicing.  I love that the container in the middle is super easy to slide when you have to take the  ginger or garlic that you sliced or grated.
Another favorite dish  if both my kids and husband is sauteed sardines  with veggies.
I remember the first time I made sardines, I thought for sure that my husband would not like it because  he is not very fond of fish but  gladly, he loved it!  So now, it became one of the regular dishes that I make when I miss home or when they crave for it.
I haven't use the Mini-Prep 3-in-1 tool but I am sure that this would really come in handy.  I am planning to make a pot roast tomorrow so I will update this with my own photo.  For now, I am sharing a photo I took from KitchenIQ website.  As you can see, there is a brush on one side which serves as a tool to clean  potato or carrot skin.  Then on the other side, it has the peeler and in the middle, there is a dicing blade that you can use to dice any kind of veggies.  This versatile little tool can clean and scrub, peel, slice, dice and chop any veggie! Whether preparing a nutritious smoothie, making vegetable soup or just fixing leftovers – this tool can handle it all.
UPDATE:  The 3-in-1 tool was  perfect to clean the carrots that  we harvested from our garden.  My son  had a ball using it, he cleaned  almost all of these carrots.
The cutter  did a really great job in chopping the ends of the carrots.
The last but  not the least awesome tool that I got is this Cheese grater.  Just like the zester, it also has a lid on top of the  blade which is really nice.   We normally  use grated cheese  because we don't have  grater but now that we do, I think that I will start buying the whole cheese.
These grater is not only good for cheese but can also be used for chocolates, veggies like peppers, carrots, cucumbers, coconut, nuts, ginger, and garlic.  This would be grate to use when I make achara again.  I am so looking forward to that, I just have to  look for  kohlrabi.
Thank you  once again Ms. Fields and KitchenIQ!  It's  so awesome to work with you.  Looking forward to working with you again in the future.  You can visit the website through the link above  if you want to learn more about KitcheIQ.

Le Creuset Braiser and Cinnamon Swirl

I have a coupon code to use for shopping to one of the websites that reviewed so I am looking for something that I could buy  with it. I found this  le creuset braiser  and I was surprised to see how much it cost...  A whopping $200 wahhh.  Do you know why it's a little pricey?  Due to the fact that it's not only colorful and stylish but it has also a built-in heat retention of cast iron that helps food to keep warm.  You may also  put this versatile  braiser directly from your stove top to your table and it won't damage anything.

On another note, I really love this cinnamon swirl that was given to us when my husband participated to a marathon.

New Stand Mixer from CSN

When we were unpacking our kitchen utensils from Korea, we accidentally threw the papers where the beaters were wrapped. We just found out that it's missing when hubby wanted to bake a brownie. A couple of days after that, we found it at our street rusted because the garbage truck had it ground with their thing.

So when I told my husband that I am getting some solar garden lights from the coupon code that CSN has gave me for doing a review, he immediately suggested if we could get a new mixer. I agreed with his idea so we ordered a Sunbeam Mixmaster 12 speed Stand Mixer. The very next day of our order, we got a confirmation that CSN has shipped the item already. Yup, they are super fast.

We got this Stand Mixer for $99.99 and best of all, it was FREE shipping. It has 300 watts of power for thorough mixing. It also has 12 variable speeds for mixing versatility. The size of the stainless steel bowl is 4.0 quart which is pretty big. It has a Chrome finish with charcoal grey accent which adds style and elegance.

Other features that I like is its removable head for cleaning and storage convenience. Soft grip handle with burst of power button for an added boost of power at any speed. It also includes dough hooks, beaters and whisks for a full range of mixing and best of all, you can set it to spin which our old one doesn't have.

My husband tested it the other day and made us a cheese cake which we truly enjoyed eating while all of us chit chat at our dining room.
This is not a sponsored post guys but if you are looking for some kitchen aid for your cooking or anything that you need this summer, just visit CSN Stores. Oh before I end this post, do you know what my next project would be? We badly need a mailbox because the one that we have here is pretty beat already and some punk stole the flag in it.
